Formed
in 1976, Excel Automation Ltd was based in Castle Bromwich.
We were a major supplier to FATA Limited throughout the 1980’s
and early 1990’s supplying floor and slat conveyors for
many industry sectors. This included the patented Excelvayor
accumulating roller conveyor with its unique, cost effective,
clutch assembly. Due to the close relationship between Excel
and FATA, FATA bought Excel in 1992, complete with their intellectual
property rights. The various conveyor designs were integrated
into the FATA Automation Group. The Castle Bromwich plant was
closed and both companies started dual operations from the same
Worcester premises. Between 1992 and 1994 Excel grew within
the FATA Group, achieving a $6M turnover.
In 1995 FATA Group sold Excel Automation. Excel took over
the Worcester production facility in a management buy-out. We
retained most of the staff that had previously filled dual roles
working for both FATA Limited and Excel.
In 1996 we increased the production facility to 52,000 square
feet and in 1998 we became a partner of NDC, Sweden, becoming
the sole UK supplier of NDC lazer guided vehicle technology.
In 2002 we signed a trading agreement with Toyota Tsusho UK
Ltd, and have since become a tier one supplier to Toyota. We
also achieved tier one supplier status to Jaguar/Ford, Land
Rover, Nissan, and Aston Martin.
In 2003 our production facility was increased to 72,000 square
feet, and we now have a fully operational manufacturing and
assembly workshop with its own machining and powder coating
equipment, and the facility to set-up and commission systems
prior to final installation at the customers works.
